Filet Crochet Chart – Lonely Cabin at Night

Hey everyone, today I’m sharing another filet crochet chart with you. This is the Lonely Cabin at Night Chart.

There’s something peaceful yet melancholic about this little cabin in the woods under the night sky. The cabin is surrounded by trees with a fence out front, and a calm little creek nearby.

Maybe there’s a person sipping a warm cup of tea or coffee in that cabin? Perhaps there’s a sasquatch in the woods? Who knows!

This Filet Crochet Pattern would look so cute and rustic if you framed it on your wall too!

What is Filet Crochet?

Filet crochet is just a way to crochet a grid-like lace, and it usually has an image or a decorative pattern worked into the fabric.

It’s sort of like cross stitch, but you use double crochets and chains to make open or closed squares.

It’s a really neat way to make a picture or image into a vintage lacy decorative item.

Method of Filet Crochet Used in This Chart

The method I used for this chart was the 3dc method. That just means that 3 dc make up one solid square or a (dc, ch 1, dc) makes an open square.

It is fine to use the 4dc method if you prefer. I think that method would probably open up the negative space more so you can see better, but just keep in mind that using the 4dc method will make the finished piece more rectangular rather than square/

How to Read This Filet Crochet Chart

As with other filet crochet charts, you are going to start on one side of the chart and crochet it as indicated, and then when you turn and go for the next row, you’re going to read the chart in the opposite direction.

Then continue alternating directions as you work each row; one row in the normal direction, the next in reverse and so on.

Once you get to the night sky, you can create more open mesh by crocheting 2 squares instead of one. See pic below for more details.

How Big is The Finished Piece?

If you use a 0.75mm crochet hook with size 30 crochet thread, it will be about 7”x7” after blocking. Of course this depends on your tension and how far you stretch the piece if you decide to block it (you should!)

Blocking Filet Crochet

I highly suggest blocking your Lonely Cabin at Night. It’s going to help it lay totally flat and it will look much nicer.

An easy way to block is to simply submerge your finished piece in a bowl of water, gently pat with a towel to soak up excess water.

Use a blocking board (or a piece of think cardboard) and pin it into place.

Allow it to dry for 24 hours or until it’s dry.
